City Of Bourbon To Follow Up On Nuisance Violations

The city of Bourbon will be sending follow-up notices to those in violation of nuisance ordinances.

Bourbon council members held a hearing for violators on July 20.

The violations ranged from derelict vehicles, to trash in the yard to tall grass.

Some in attendance vowed to fix the issue and were given 30 days. Others didn’t appear before the council because they had already made the fix.

There were others in violation who didn’t show up.

Board members were lenient, but Mayor Dave Lafferty said the city must follow through if a violation isn’t addressed.

“If we don’t, people won’t take us seriously,” he said.

The city sent 25 notices.

Lafferty told those in attendance the ordinances had been on the books for more than 20 years and it was time to enforce them.

If residents cannot move or address derelict vehicles, the city has the option of towing them away.
