Bids Sought For Highway C Bridge Replacement

Bids are out to replace a one-lane bridge over the Little Bourbeuse River on Highway C.

The bid was put out in late February and ends Friday.

For several years running, the bridge was listed as the county’s top transportation priority.

As a driver heads north, they encounter the bridge coming down a hill at a slight turn. Drivers heading south into Bourbon approach the bridge without seeing any oncoming traffic.

Not only is the bridge a traffic hazard, it was downgraded to “poor” condition in 2018.

Crawford County commissioners annually submitted the project during the Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s Transportation Advisory Committee meeting each December.

Finally in 2018, it was voted as one of the region’s top priorities.

In 2019, the Missouri Department of Transportation included it in the 2020-2024 Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP).

Engineering and right-of-way funding was included in the 2019-20 budget.

MoDOT estimated the cost at $1.1 million.

The bridge is the only Crawford County project slated for 2021.

Four projects are scheduled for 2022, which includes approximately 68 miles of pavement improvement across the county.
